REN21, the international network of stakeholders specialized in renewable energy, publishes today a report based on a collection of studies on the use of renewable energy worldwide. Ahead of the publication of this new study, Rana Adib, executive director of REN21, currently in Bonn for climate negotiations, spoke with Radio Era Environnement as part of the podcast “Your Voice”. Several points are mentioned on this podcast. Rana Adib discusses the positioning of countries in terms of leadership on renewable energy supply. According to the report, China dominates the world, with 44% and 55% total investment in renewable energy. It is followed by Europe and the United States of America with 11% and 10% respectively. Africa and the Middle East are behind, with only 1.6%. The director of REN21, however, highlights “success stories”, particularly in Morocco, which she believes is the continent’s leader in renewable energy supply. There are very positive developments,’ explains the director of REN 21 on Your Voice. But there are many obstacles. Governments continue to heavily subsidize fossil fuels,’ she said on Your Voice.
