During a year-end press conference with the media, Zambia’s President Hakainde Hichelema took stock of his activities since his country’s request for international financial restructuring. He also spoke about the conclusions of COP28. He welcomed the creation of a Ministry of Green Economy and also welcomed the chairing of the African Negotiators Group to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. Hakainde Hichelema welcomed the operationalization of the loss and damage fund. But he also stressed that Africa will not enter the carbon market without market restructuring. “We will structure carbon credit markets for the benefit of our communities,” he told reporters on Friday.
