Those who know the Peace Corps ( the independent agency and program of the United States government that trains and deploys volunteers to provide international development assistance ), may not know the Corps Africa. It is an initiative created by Liz Fanning, a former peace corps operating in Morocco in the 1990s. For Earth Day, Liz Fanning decided to highlight her initiatives in Africa. As part of Mastercard Foundation’s $60 million grant, CorpsAfrica Green is officially launching on Earth Day environmental initiatives happening in six African countries. Corps Africa is training young leaders from Africa and assisting communities to fight climate change. Liz Fanning opens discussion on the challenges and opportunities of volunteering in Africa for Africa by Africans. In “Your Voice”, she answers questions about the origin of the creation of her organization and the challenges and opportunities of the countries and local communities with which they work and want to collaborate as well.
