Ecological transition: Dunkerque, a hub for employment?
Ecological transition: Dunkerque, a hub for employment?

Does the industrial and port hub of Dunkerque wish to position itself as a hub for employment? According to verified information, Dunkerque aims to become a strategic investment site for decarbonation in Europe. Will the seventh European Meeting on Decarbonation, Industries and Territories (REDIT), organized on October 2 and 3, be able to confirm this? Will the first participation of representatives from the World Economic Forum (WEF) prove this?
A platform for investment and exchanges
The event, which is part of Dunkerque’s integration into the WEF’s ‘Transitioning Industrial Cluster’ in 2023, aims to connect private capital with transition initiatives. Networking spaces should facilitate discussions between companies and key funding actors such as ADEME, in order to possibly structure partnerships and fundraising.
Participants will also be able to visit the industrial sites to assess the feasibility and potential of the assets. The objective is to present a reproducible transformation model that reconciles economic performance and environmental imperatives.
A portfolio of technological projects in the showcase
The “pipeline” of decarbonization of the territory will serve as a showcase for the event’s exhibition. The public will discover major projects there. These are the pillars of Dunkerque’s strategy towards carbon neutrality by 2050. Thus, 3D models and virtual reality will be honored. Some examples: the future EPR2 reactor, electrolysis units and methanation plants. Of strategic importance for European energy sovereignty, these projects also aim to create 20,000 jobs.
